A Week in Pictures 12.23.11

When I first got to Toronto I was driving West on Queen looking for stores that would want to sell Lilly Lab.  On my quest I found something very exciting… Shepard Fairey’s OBEY sticker on a Neighbourhood Watch street sign.  I saw it in passing and said to myself that I had to go back and shoot the sticker at a later date.  A week passed and I went back, parked my car about a block away and started walking.  On my way to the sign I noticed a sketchy, yet cool alley, seemingly calling my name.  I didn’t go down it right away as I had OBEY on my mind and had to do just that.  I snapped a few shots of it and on my way back, thought, what the hell, go down the alley, your tough, no one will mess with you.  Granted I have been down some pretty gnarly alleys in East Hastings of Vancouver, so this was not going to be scary at all.  From the street this alley looked like any other.  It was only after I got about 15 paces in did I realize I had found the holy grail of street art in TO.  This stuff wasn’t Bansky, yet there was something so wonderfully raw about it, like we were getting back to the roots of street art.  Garage door after garage door was littered with this beautiful art.  It was such a blessing to be in the presence of it.  It went on for what seemed forever and I just snapped away.  Below are a few of my favs.  What a wonderful start to my life here.  I knew there had to be something important close to that OBEY sticker and a it reminded me to keep my head up and not miss what’s happening in my surroundings.  Greatness is in the details so pay attention.

A Week in Pictures 12.08.11

This week I travelled from Western Canada to Toronto.  I went through the mid West of the US, which was interesting.  The speed limits are SO FAST on the Interstates!  It took 4 days dawn to dusk of driving.  Sugar was my wing man and didn’t complain one bit.  Here are a few pictures of this very memorable experience.
