Layers are the coolest way to dress right now. Textured and tattered knits, always faux furs, lace and socks. Light flowy maxi dresses are so great for layering too cause they are thin and you can pile on top of them. No layered look would be complete without a pair of serious wedge boots, preferably in a dark plum or black.
Tommy Ton, the brills photog who does the Jak & Jil blog, shot Jay-Z and Kanye West in NYC recently and Kanye was rocking a leather skirt. Now I’m not that fond of leather but I am really fond of Kanye breaking down gender stereotypes.
The reason this look works so well is because of a few reasons. One, the t-shirt is long. With the shirt being long the skirts dosen’t look quite as obvious, but rather just an extension of the shirt that adds a whole lot of depth. Two, he has pants on under the skirt. The pants appear to be leather also so the whole look kind of flows in a really easy way. Finally, he owns it. Confidence can make or break a look and Kanye know this.
